Unidentified Union Officer
By Michael A. Peake

This appears to be a 1st lieutenant and the officer kepi is adorned with infantry device designating 1st Infantry Regiment. The 1st Ohio Infantry served in Brigadier General L. H. Rousseau’s Fourth Brigade, in the same division as the 32nd Indiana. The 1st Wisconsin served in another brigade of the division, but given that the 1st Ohio organized in the same city the portrait was created gives evidence that this is likely an officer of the 1st Ohio Infantry Regiment.
