Lieutenant Albert Smith, Company “I,” 5th Kentucky Infantry, served as Aide-de-camp and Acting Assistant Adjutant General on the staff of Brigadier General Richard W. Johnson’s 2nd Division, XXth Army Corps. General Johnson commended the young officer for gallant conduct at Chickamauga.
